Is it a scam?

Here are few ways to spot a phishing attack:

  1. Does the email have a sense of urgency? If the email demands urgency, it is a telltale sign of a phishing scam. Users should be cautious and are recommended not to share any sensitive information on such emails.
  2. Does your email look professional? While some emails may look professional at first glance, if you look more closely you will notice grammatical & spelling errors, unusual language or branding that isn’t quite right. Users hence should have a close look at email content & ensure it uses authentic logos, branding & links to remain safe.
  3. Is the email in reference to the competition or promotion you have won? If the email is delivered out of the blue from an unfamiliar source, it is sure to cause you trouble in case you pay heed to it.

Users are requested to not reply to these types of messages to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

What should you do to save yourself from becoming a victim of BMW Lottery Scam or any other email scam?

  1. Be skeptical: If you smell something fishy about the email you received, you are advised to either ignore the email or contact the concerned authority before responding to ensure that it is legitimate. However, don’t use the toll-free number, email-address or website address provided in the email. Use the contact that you know is correct.
  2. Avoid sharing personal information via email.
  3. Regularly review your bank & credit card statements to ensure that all transactions are authorized.
  4. Make sure your system is protected with up-to-date versions of anti-virus, anti-spyware software like Vipre & BULL GUARD.
  5. You are requested to regularly change passwords of banking apps and other sensitive accounts. Use strong passwords to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
