The “Attention Your Computer Has Been Infected” is a tech support scam created by people with malicious intentions to trap unsuspecting users into spending money for their services to remove this “Attention Your Computer Has Been Infected” pop up.
The “Attention Your Computer Has Been Infected” pop-up is a script that is run and executed into the system if the user visits Adult websites, torrent links etc. After being executed, this script installs into the system to keep generating the fake error message. The fake error message tells the user that the following data such as Passwords, browser history, sensitive information like bank card details and files on the hard disk may be under risk.
“Attention Your Computer Has Been Infected” pop-up then urges the user to save their data by calling the number within 5 minutes or your computer will be disabled. Users who are unaware of these scams may panic and end up calling the number. The so called tech support then goes on to guide the user into removing the Virus which is not present on their system. After their guidance for tech support, users are made to pay for the services provided by these scammers.
Similar Fake Error messages are used by Cyber miscreants to bait innocent users into paying for tech support services that they don’t need. Users should ignore such messages and never call the phone number provided. Users should close the browser window or the tab that displays the “Attention Your Computer Has Been Infected” pop-up fake error message.
If you are unable to close the window then use the Windows Task Manager to close the web browser or restart your system. This will effectively close the error message. This script can be gateway for other harmful programs into the system such as adware, browser extensions etc.
